One of the world’s most beloved and influential shojo series, Fruits Basket is receiving the FMA Brotherhood treatment in 2019. That is to say, the series is receiving a new anime that will cover the entire manga! Something that fans have been longing for years since the manga’s completion. The manga was adapted as an anime back in 2001 and Funimation has once again acquired the rights to Fruits Basket. They will be streaming the new series on their  FunimationNow. They have also revealed the main cast and staff:

In a press release put out by Funimation, the creator of Furuba, Natsuki Takaya expressed many feelings and comments on the new project:

“My editor asked me if there was anything I wanted to do to celebrate my 20th year in the profession, and I kept replying, “No, don’t worry about it; I don’t have anything I particularly want.”

But then one day, on the spur of the moment I casually said, “I’d love to sit alone somewhere and read (well, listen) to the final chapter of Furuba with sound, with voices, and with the song ‘For Fruits Basket’ playing, and bawl my eyes out.” I was being glib, just sort of building castles in the air and not looking for anything to come of it, but it sparked this project.”

Funimation also released two new visuals with main characters fans will recognize as Shigure, Yuki, Tohru and Kyo:

About Fruits Basket:
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out…into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret.
