French Student’s Miyazaki Inspired Film Gracie June 1, 2015 Articles French art student Gwenn Germain posted a video last month that had Miyazaki fans in awe. Their student film titled “Celles et Ceux des Cimes et Cieux” (“Girls and Guys from the Summits and the Skies”), is presented as a short animated trailer for what could be a future featured film. From watching the little trailer you can see Germain’s love and passion of all things Miyazaki. My first thoughts were that this could be a combination of Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. Germain has definitely done their research and their love shines through with their own originality and creativity. Hand drawn movies may have died down in the Disney department, but Studio Ghibli would be foolish not to snatch up this up and coming animator. Germain credits other influences besides just Miyazaki like Syd Mead and Moebius, though their influence is not as prominent as Miyazaki’s. Regardless, I look forward to seeing the full version of this teaser trailer or whatever else this new creative mind has to offer.
